United States Medical Licensing Examination

This licensing exam is for the students graduated from the medical colleges affiliated with Liaison Committee on Medical Education and Alpha Opera Alpha. This exam consists of three steps to attain a medical license in the US and funds are provided by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and the Federation of States Medical Boards (FSMB). Interested medical students and graduates of medical colleges in Canada or the US-affiliated by the AOA and LCME can enrol for the USMLE first 2 steps on NLSE. The eligibility period to register to appear in the first two steps i.e. Step 1 and Step 2 CK is three months (February the 1st to April the 30th or March the 1st to May the 31st). The registration starts from mid-September. Students eligible for Step 2 (CS) are given 12 month eligibility time after the date of registration. Well! Cracking this licensing exam is not a hard task for students if they start preparing for the exam from the very first day of the medical course. Getting valid scores should be of primal importance.

How Many Steps Are There in The Exam?

There are 3 steps in total- Step 1, Step2 CK and Step2 CS. There will be 2 steps initially, Step 1 and Step 2 where step 2 is divided into two parts. The first part of Step 2 consists of the Clinical Knowledge and the second part includes Clinical skills. And Step 3 is for those students who have completed their medical course from outside Canada or the United States. Medical college should be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Students can visit FSMB website to apply. NOTE: If a student is a dropout or dismissed from the college then he/she is not eligible for the USMLE.
