MCI Screening Test
Medical students, who have completed their MBBS degrees from an international, MCI-approved medical university abroad, are required to qualify the MCI Screening Test if they want to practice in India after completing their studies. However, any such test is not needed for students who have studied MBBS in India.
As far as the MCI Screening Test or FMGE is concerned, it is conducted by the Medical Council of India twice in a year: June and December. Students usually require a two-month rigorous preparation for qualifying the exam. Some universities in Russia, China, Ukraine, Poland, etc. allow students to prepare for FMGE during their MBBS course.
The MCI Screening Test is not easy to crack without proper coaching. There is a set pattern of the examination questions which covers 19 subjects as per the Indian curriculum i.e. approved by Medical Council of India. The doctors who are required to give this exam for a license have to prepare for all 19 subjects. You cannot simply rely on the subjects that you are good in. It is not an easy task to prepare the 19 subjects in a short period of time. These 19 subjects cover the topics that you have studied in 5 years of education.
MCI Screening Passing Ratio
Though it is a non-competitive exam and there is no limit on the number of students who can pass this exam, only a fraction of students are able to clear it in the first attempt. So much so, only 15% students are able to clear the exam and this pattern is going on from last 4-5 years.
